"Dennis our tour guide was fantastic. Very friendly and knows a lot of history. We learned a lot and enjoyed our time. Thank you!"

"The tour was fantastic!! Dennis, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and added a tad of humor as well. Highly recommend!!"

"Everything was excellent for our first visit to Savannah. The guide Dennis was very well informed on the History of the cemetery and those who are laid to rest there. Lunch at the small restaurant was so delicious and portions were more then we could eat. Wormsloe Plantation was another great experience and again Dennis was an excellent tour guide. This tour is a must on a visit to Savannah, Georgia. Go see them ya’ll."

"We went on the Bonaventure Cemetery and Wormsloe Historic sight tour with Dennis as our guide. We were picked up at our hotel and the whole day went smoothly. Dennis was a great narrator and guide. Both places were fascinating and beautiful to visit. We had a delicious lunch stop at Erica Davis Low Country restaurant to break up the day. On our way back stopped at Byrd’s cookies. It was a full day 9-3 that was well spent. Highly recommend this day excursion out of the city. Bring a hat and sunscreen. Dennis had a cooler with water bottles available. There were plenty of bathroom stops."

"I recently took a tour of the Bonaventure Cemetery and Wormsloe Plantation in Savannah, Georgia, and I have to say, our tour guide, Dennis, was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we met him, he was knowledgeable, helpful, and engaging. He had a passion for history and a gift for storytelling that made the whole experience come alive. Dennis took us through the grounds of Bonaventure, sharing stories about the people buried there and pointing out the many beautiful gravestones and monuments. He was able to give us a deeper understanding of the history and significance of the cemetery and how it has evolved over the years. At Wormsloe Plantation, Dennis was just as enthusiastic and informative. He provided us with a detailed overview of the property and its history. Overall, I would highly recommend the tour with Dennis if you are interested in learning more about Savannah's history."

"It was a great trip. I would highly recommend it. My only advice don’t sit in the way back. It was very hot because the AC doesn’t reach you."

"Dennis was very knowledgeable, and loved talking about his city."

"Dennis was a wonderful and knowledgeable guide. He kept us entertained all day! Bonaventure Cemetery was such a beautiful place with the azaleas in bloom this spring but the beautiful monuments and sculptures would be worth a visit during any season. I would highly recommend this tour!"

Bonaventure Cemetery is a 160-acre Victorian garden cemetery established in 1846 on the banks of the Wilmington River. It became world-famous through John Berendt's 1994 book 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.' The cemetery is renowned for its enormous live oaks draped in Spanish moss, intricate marble statuary, and the graves of notable Savannahians including Johnny Mercer. See our guide to 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' and Bonaventure Cemetery for the story behind the book and the Bird Girl statue.
Yes, Bonaventure Cemetery is open to the public daily. However, guided tours add enormous value — guides know exactly where to find the most significant monuments, explain the history of families buried there, and share the stories that make each grave meaningful. Our guide to what to expect on a Bonaventure Cemetery tour covers meeting points, timing, and what to bring.
Cemetery tours start from $36 for a walking tour of Bonaventure. Golf cart tours start from $38. The combined Bonaventure and Wormsloe tour starts from $73.83. Private tours start from $175.
Wormsloe is a colonial estate south of Savannah, famous for its 1.5-mile canopy of live oak trees (one of Georgia's most photographed spots). Many cemetery tours combine Bonaventure with a stop at Wormsloe for the iconic oak alley photographs. Read our complete guide to the Bonaventure & Wormsloe tour for the full-day itinerary and what's included.
Absolutely — the cemetery is large and can be tiring to walk in Georgia's heat. A golf cart tour lets you cover more ground, see more monuments, and hear more stories in less time. The tour is rated 4.8/5 with 219+ reviews. Our comparison of the golf cart tour versus the walking tour helps you pick the right format, and the best time for a Savannah cemetery tour guide explains how season affects your choice.
Most cemetery tours are suitable for children with an interest in history or nature. The tours focus more on the beautiful setting, Victorian sculpture, and Savannah's history than on scary ghost stories. Very young children may get bored on longer tours — golf cart tours work well for families.
